BREAKING NEWS! NEW DATE ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT YEAR'S EVENT SAT 18TH SEPTEMBER 2010. More details soon.

"This has all the makings of a major kayak racing event" Keith Owen, Bradford Upon Avon Canoe Club

EXCELLENT START for the first of many Bristol Harbour Kayak Races! This pilot event, The Bristol Harbour K2 10,000m, was quickly put together in order to 'trial' this race format and gain feedback from competitors and marshalls, giving valuable information to the organisers... for the next official race in 2010.

There was no doubting the potential of Bristol Harbour becoming a major kayak racing venue, with all competitors sharing this view.

Mark Ressell, top international paddler and experienced Surf Ski Event organiser also praised the event, marking it as a – "turning point for Bristol flat water kayak racing and the Bristol (Marathon/Racing) Canoe Club".

This inaugural race is staged in one of the best inner city waterside ampitheatres in the UK. For spectating water based events, Bristol Harbour has to be one of the best locations. THE K2 10,000m - A LEGENDARY KAYAK RACE

Once a highlight of sprint regattas at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham – the K2 10,000m provided both competitors and spectators alike with a Formula 1 race-style circuit where anything might happen! NOW THE EXCITEMENT IS BACK... IN BRISTOL HARBOUR.

Each lap of the new course is 3,000m with race positions are under constant threat at every turn, with high drama every few minutes as crews battle to survive and maintain their place on 'the wash'! Races are won or lost at these turning points, with the odd capsize likely too! – and as Bristol Harbour is a natural ampitheatre, spectators can feast on the action as the drama unfolds – that's why it's so exciting to watch!!

The race comprises laps of Bristol's exclusive 'floating' harbour, passing luxury waterfront appartments, bars and restaurants as well as historic Bristol monuments including the world's first steamship: Brunel's SS Great Britain, and The Matthew replica, John Cabot's sailing ship which discovered Newfoundland in 1497. This is a race like no other!

Details of next year's race event will be available on this site soon.

HAPPY TRAINING!
